  • Google appears to be working on an ‘advanced’ version of Bard that you have to pay for
    Google is developing an upgraded version of its language model, Bard, called "Bard Advanced," which will be available through a paid subscription to Google One. Bard Advanced will be powered by Gemini Ultra, the top tier of Google's newly announced large language model (LLM), and will have advanced math and reasoning skills. The new version may also include a feature called Motoko that could let users create custom bots, a "power up" feature that uses AI to improve prompts, and a "Gallery" section to explore different topics.

  • OpenAI’s news publisher deals reportedly top out at $5 million a year
    OpenAI and other AI companies are willing to pay between $1 million and $5 million a year to license copyrighted news articles to train their AI models. This is one of the first indications of how much AI companies plan to pay for licensed material. Apple is also looking to partner with media companies to use content for AI training and is offering at least $50 million over a multiyear period for data. The numbers appear to be roughly similar to some earlier non-AI licensing deals.

  • Microsoft announces AI key on Windows 11 PCs
    Microsoft has introduced an AI key on its new Windows 11 PCs that will allow users to access Copilot, Microsoft's AI tool. Copilot helps users with functions such as searching, writing emails, and creating images. The new keyboards are expected to be on new products from February. The introduction of the button is a "natural step," according to Prof John Tucker, computer scientist at the University of Swansea. Copilot is based on OpenAI's GPT-4 large language model.

  • Search startup Perplexity AI valued at $520 mln in funding from Bezos, Nvidia
    Perplexity AI has raised $73.6 million in its latest funding round from a group of investors including U.S. chip designer Nvidia and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in a deal valuing the artificial intelligence startup at $520 million. The round was led by Institutional Venture Partners, and Perplexity AI said the latest funding would help in customer adoption and global expansion. Perplexity's search tools enable users to get instant, reliable answers to questions with sources and citations.
